After relocating to the striking Richard Meier building in Grand Army Plaza to be closer to their children, this couple found themselves in a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom apartment that felt anything but inspiring. The space was a textbook case of modern “celebrity architecture” gone wrong—blindingly white, sun-bleached, and devoid of personality. Bad architectural details and awkward AC closets only added to the lackluster feel.
To bring warmth and function to the space, we designed a custom wood-slat storage system that not only conceals the unsightly AC closets but also provides much-needed storage. With a refined yet inviting aesthetic in mind, we layered in color, texture, and thoughtful design choices to transform the apartment into a sophisticated, livable home.
Thankfully, our clients brought their impeccable taste with them. We integrated their existing collection of elegant rugs, light fixtures, and furniture, refreshing key upholstered pieces with new fabrics and incorporating complementary furnishings and wallpaper to add depth and character. The result? A space that feels elevated, cohesive, and uniquely theirs—proof that even the starkest blank slate can become a home with heart.
