In the wake of the pandemic, this Lower East Side family needed a home that truly worked for their present-day life. With two kids now teenagers and a hastily renovated apartment revealing its shortcomings, it was time for a complete transformation.
Originally two separate units, the 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom apartment had never quite come together after a rushed renovation at the time of purchase. Despite its spacious interior and stunning views, the layout felt awkward and disjointed. So, we gutted it entirely, reworking the flow and adding 13 feet of hallway to create better connectivity. The heart of the new design? A sculptural, wood-clad squiggle—a warm and inviting centerpiece that doubles as a media room and guest space. This cozy, curving hub became the soul of the home and the project’s undeniable showpiece.
Beyond structural changes, this renovation was also an exercise in keeping pace with the ever-evolving tastes of teenagers. From rugs and lighting to wallpaper and art, every design choice remained fluid, adapting to the dynamic and expressive styles of two growing girls. The result? A space that’s as functional as it is full of personality—built to evolve right alongside the family.
